Welsh tenor Elgan Llyr Thomas, from Llandudno, is a former student of the Royal Northern College of Music where he graduated with a first class BMus (hons) degree. Elgan recently completed his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on the school’s prestigious opera course, following a two year post-graduate where he attained a Masters in Performance with Distinction. Awards include the Stuart Burrows International Voice Award and it’s inaugural audience prize, the Kerry Keane Young Artist award and audience prize at the Les Azuriales Festival, the Urdd National Eisteddfod Bryn Terfel Scholarship, Osborne Roberts Blue Ribband award at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and a Kathleen Ferrier Young Singer’s award. Elgan also received grants to support his studies from the Mario Lanza Trust, The Kathleen Trust, a Help Musicians UK Sybil Tutton Opera Award and was one of the first ever recipients of a Bryn Terfel Foundation study grant.


Recent engagements include Male Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia (GSMD), Pinkerton in Bury Court Opera’s production of Madama Butterfly, which he also performed at La Mortella on the Isle of Ischia and at the Anghiari Festival,Tuscany with the Southbank Sinfonia. Over the summer he worked with Garsington Opera in their chorus, and also understudied and performed the role of Lensky in their critically acclaimed production of Eugene Onegin. In August 2016 Elgan joined Scottish Opera as an Emerging Artist and he recently played Nemorino in their national  tour of The Elixir of Love. Forthcoming engagements with Scottish Opera include a recital at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland,  roles in The Trial by Philip Glass and the national Opera Highlights tour. In December, he will perform the role of Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff with the Cambridge Philharmonic Orchestra in a special concert performance of the opera, conducted by Timothy

Redmond. In April he will travel to Catania, Sicily, to perform as soloist in Handel’s Messiah at the Teatro Bellini under the baton of Maestro J.David Jackson.
